We played the current NLD champions at home and for many of us, if we are honest with ourselves didn’t feel like playing before the game started. Yes it was Mothers Day and an extremely cold, wet and miserable day. Also, many of us had some mental barriers to overcome considering the last game against them when two of our players got injured and went to hospital. We did just that, for the first 20 minutes as we held Ilkeston 0-0. However, it was always going to be difficult contain them, but the boys earned Ilkeston’s respect as their coach said ‘we fronted up’. We did our best with great efforts as usual from captain Ed (great talking), Joseph (so consistent) and iron man Ben (what a game he had). Worth mentioning good tackling from Robert and Amani. Our rucking and tackling in first half was good, but we need to work on our width. Some heads went down when we conceded a lot of soft tries, but we never gave up. We deserved Ben’s try towards the end of the game, which felt amazing for all of us! Well done boys and bring on Southwell next week!
