A crisp spring morning for today's game, a visit from Mellish. Previous meetings between the two teams had resulted in close encounters, only to see the Casuals narrowly miss out. But, today was different, from the off both teams were 'up for it'. Excellent passages of play from both sides, resulting in a try each. We definitely had a game on our hands. End of the first quarter saw the Casuals take a 2-1 lead . The second quarter started much the same as the first a rip roaring pace, but Mellish scored 2 quick tries. Did the Casuals heads drop? No, they responded almost immediately bringing the game level. During this and the next quarter, the referee pulled up and had a word with a couple of the Mellish players over their use of the high tackle. This was much to the annoyance of both sets of supporters. The ref politely asked them to shush. At the end of the the quarter, Mellish led 4-3. Out came the Casuals like never before. Quickly leveling the score. Only for Mellish to retake the lead. This time, though the Casuals were not finished and showed what they were made of. Turnovers and try saving tackles enabled them to draw level going into the final 2 minutes of the game. From the kick off the Casuals took advantage of some unconvincing handling by the opposition, and broke through to score a deserved winning try just before the full time whistle. What a great result. The whole squad were brilliant. Special mention for POTW Finnley. Bring on the Ilkeston and Loughborough Festivals??
