Casuals U15s friendly at home to Derby

Aside from the gusty winds, conditions were favourable for the contest between Nottingham Casuals and Derby with soft ground and clear skies. The first scoring opportunity presented itself in the form of a penalty in favour of Casuals facing the Derby posts. With a shot called Tommy (the Casuals kicker) lined up his shot and calmly slotted the ball between the posts giving Casuals a 3-0 lead. However, soon afterwards Derby retaliated with a try to take the lead in scoring and with a conversion were up 3-7. As the first half was drawing to a close a promising run down the wing led to a try in the corner for Casuals after an impressive Dummy pass from Tommy allowing him to run freely towards the Derby tryline. The difficult field position for the kick led to Casuals being unable to extend their lead leaving the score a close 8-7 to Casuals at half time.

With the second half well underway Casuals found themselves battling for the line in Derby’s 22, fortunately for them, their efforts paid off when a series of passes brought the ball out to the Casuals winger, Callum. He ran for the line beating several defenders but was taken out via an illegal tackle from a Derby player. The referee awarded Casuals a penalty try and this increased their lead to 15-7. Though Derby had not yet had their final say and scored a well-worked try in Casuals’s corner. Yet the orientation of the kick proved too difficult for a conversion leaving the final score at 15-12 giving Casuals the Win.
