Our U16 girls travelled over to Boston with a high-level of optimism.
Coming off the back of a hard-fought win against Kesteven, the girls were itching to get back into action against Boston and Long Eaton in their 1st ever NLD Cup competition.
Due to Nottingham Casuals having greater squad numbers, we were required to match the oppositions numbers like for like.
An amalgamation of teams joined Boston to field 10 girls against Casuals. To Boston’s credit these girls had never played together and were given little time to gel and familiarize themselves with each other. This did not stop them from giving a spirited performance throughout.
It was clear from the moment Boston kicked off that the Casuals girls would be a challenge too far as Casuals caught the ball from kick off and a solo run through the Boston team ended with a try directly under the post which was easily converted.
For the next 15 minutes this was repeated again and again with some fantastic individual performances.
At half time Casuals made changes, utilizing their bench.
With the game pretty much secured, the Casuals girls were instructed to start implementing their phase play in preparation for the Long Eaton game. What was pleasing to see was how the girls reacted to this and instead of solo runs aplenty the girls started to set pods at the breakdown, running through numerous phases before releasing the ball to the backs. A special mention to Amy for orchestrating this and organizing both the forward pack and the backs.
As the scoreline ticked over, Casuals soon reached the magic 50 points required, but credit to Boston for agreeing to continue the game to the bitter end and stuck at the task in hand against a very strong Casuals team.
Final score: Boston 0 Nottingham Casuals 60
