Casuals get some match practice in

29th Match 2014
Friendly
Nottingham Casuals 40 West Bridgford 14

Howatson hat trick gives Casuals some pain relief from the strain of
the league, and massages their egos.

Casuals took on Nottingham neighbours Bridgford, to get in some match
time, before next weeks encounter against high flying Belgrave, and
were given a good workout by their young visitors.

Casuals forwards were instrumental in securing good ball throughout,
and the lineout performed really well, with consistently good throw ins
and takes
Howatson opened the scoring after 20 minutes, when Casuals shipped the
ball out from a lineout, and he shimmied his way through in the centre.
Mark Higgins converted a simple kick.
Bridgford drew level with a converted try within seconds of the
restart, and then took the lead with a second shortly before half time,
but that proved to be the end of their scoring opportunities.

Ben Foss got over when he took the ball on from the back of the
lineout, passing it out,he looped round to take the return to dive
over. Higgins converted

Howatson then got his second. Bridgford dropped the ball in Casuals 22,
and Howatson scooped up the loose ball to show the visitors a clean
pair of heels as he easily outsprinted the despairing defenders.
Higgins again converted.

Howatson then set up the next attack, but Higgins failed to make the
touch down, as he was bundled out.
Howatson was then on hand again to steal another loose ball, and his
speed took him clear for his hat trick.
Bridgford fumbled again, and this time Chris Brelsford picked up,
looping a dipping pass to Simon Roberts who somehow stooped to get his
fingertips to the ball, and he loped over for a rare try. Higgins added the extras.

Finally Lewis Brown broke from a lineout and he joyfully burst over the
line for the final touchdown, with Higgins converting from the
touchline.

Congratulations to the referee, Steph Carlyon, who is climbing up the refereeing ladder. Put in a good performance, keeping the protaganists in order!!
She will be back in the future, for more 1st team games, we hope. Her next adventure will be the Solstice Sevens at Casuals.

Good not to hear comments from the touchline this week, shows a job well done.
