Nice gentle work out for Casuals

15/10/2011

Mellish 10 Casuals 24

Casuals took the ooportunity to give a run out to several new faces and practice in this local derby, and it seemed as if we have some good new players to come through.
So who were they (Gilly said if I mention them, I’ve got to mention him, so that’s it for him)
Let’s just list the new boys who have made debuts for Casuals

At 5, Alex Hawkins, 6 Max Goulden, 8 Andrew Richards, 11 Dom Walker, and 19 Henry Taylor.
We know Steve Naylor, as he is the one scoring the tries.

The game was fairly to and fro for the first 30 minutes, but when Casuals finally got downfield within striking distance, a solid scrum gave Andrew Richards clean ball pick up from 8 and run in for the first try.
Unfortunately that was the end of his game, as he managed hurt himself in scoring!!
5 minutes later, Casuals turned over a Mellish scrum, and Paul Greensmith shipped it to Dom Walker who made good ground down the wing, and when the ball was quickly recycled from the ruck, it went out to Charlie Bradwell who went clean to the line, with a conversion to follow from Higgins, who had come on for Howatson.
The second half started with sustained pressure from Mellish and they were rewarded with a try on the right wing.
The game seemed to go into limbo for a while after that, but when Casuals managed to steal a Mellish lineout, it eventually went to Steve Naylor, who simply jinked through, and took the last defender over the line.
Just when things were looking comfortable for Casuals, s.o.else decided to add some spice to the game by gifting the ball to Mellish with a simple intercept they went downfield, only briefly held up by Howatson coming back in defence (hamstring all better by now)

However Mellish must have felt very guilty, so they returned the compliment by giving Will Drewe with a sweet pass 20 yards out from their try line, and Higgins added the extras to conclude a useful practice run out for Casuals.
