Brelsford 2nd hat trick in successive weeks

Saturday Sept 18th

Midlands 3 East North

Grimsby 10 Nottingham Casuals 24

Casuals maintained their good start to the season with an excellent away win in deepest NE Lincolnshire.
A superb game to witness, but a bit nail biting after a brilliant start.

Despite the long journey Casuals were soon into their stride with a try after only 2 minutes.

Simple enough routine, scrum down, pick up at No 8 by Josh Tilford, Mark Higgins dummied through, he fed Chris Brelsford who sailed through on the wing for the touchdown, with Higgins adding the conversion.

Casuals forwards were driving good ball into Grimsby’s half, gaining great territorial advantage and setting up possession for their fast flowing backs, which rarely saw Grimsby out of their half.
Grimsby looked totally shell shocked at the onslaught.

Another well won scrum on 13 minutes, Higgins again the architect of the move when he went to the left, Will Drewe took it on and Brelsford was put through for his second try.

This followed very quickly by the third try, another simple quick transfer in the backs, and Ben Hallam went in at the corner, followed by a long range conversion from Higgins.

Casuals had the opportunity to add a fourth, with the line at their mercy, but a sitter was dropped, and Casuals finished the half 19 points up.

The second half was a different story.

Grimsby took hold of the game for 20 minutes, and they used their possession to good effect. 2 tries followed in quick succession, and Casuals seemed stunned at Grimsby’s revival.

But just when it looked as if Casuals might be running out of steam, they came to life again.

The forwards worked their way downfield with some powerful drives, and as they took play into Grimsby’s half, the ball went out crisply down the line, and Brelsford steamed in for his third try, to secure the win and the bonus points for Casuals.

The result puts Casuals joint top of the league
