Higgins magnificent 6

20th Nov 2010
Midlands 3 East North

Nottingham Casuals 38 points Southwell big fat zero

Casuals maintained their table topping spot with another bonus point win,
Scoring 5 converted tries, and 1 penalty.

On a miserable, dull afternoon, Casuals made light of the grey weather to entertain the gathered throng following a magnificent lunchtime spread.

Casuals had kept Southwell pinned back for the opening period and
Mark Higgins opened the Casuals scoring with a penalty after 10 minutes.
The forwards kept the pressure on and Mark Higgins then helped himself to the touchdown when Casuals trundled a scrum over the Southwell try line.
Higgins added a relatively easy conversion.
Casuals came straight back upfield from the kick off, a few passes taking them within sight of the line, and the ball was simply recycled, Oli Mott diving through the defence for the next try, Higgins making a 7 pointer.

More pressure , and Casuals forced a 5 metre scrum. Quick ball to wingman Chris Brelsfrod, and he strolled in at the corner.
Higgins then added the extra points with a superb kick from wide out. (No tired legs this week!!!!)

The bonus point try came early in the second half, with almost a carbon copy move from the previous week. Will Drewe squeezed through a gap in the centre and sent Brodie Howatson in, although this week he had several defenders to beat, which he did with ease, Higgins converting.

The final score just emphasised Casuals superiority, when the forwards again stole a ball off their Southwell counterparts in a maul, and the backs finished a great afternoon when Howatson sent Brelsford in to the corner, with Higgins again landing a huge conversion.

In the second half Casuals brought on debutant Gopal Oliver in the centre, and he must have enjoyed being part of a such a comprehensive victory.

Southwell played their part in the game, but mainly proving that Casuals defences are getting stronger by the week. The shut out was not through lack of endeavour by Southwell, but the efforts of individuals was no match for the Casuals defence, who dealt with any menace easily.
Casuals have learned that shouting at the ref doesn’t help either, and now go about their game, moaning only just occasionally at each other.
