6 tries and yet another bonus point win keeps Casuals at the top of the league.

Nottingham Casuals 43 Amber Valley nil

Casuals were back on their home ground this week, with a pitch in absolutely cracking condition.

After having learnt that they had been deducted 5 league points for fielding an ineligible player, Casuals were in no mood for any messing about. Their commendable self discipline was key in this victory.
The forwards got a fair share of ball in most set pieces, and in the loose, but the lineout was slightly dysfunctional at times. However the pressure they exerted disrupted Amber Valley sufficiently to halt their progress throughout the game.
Casuals also found some glaring weaknesses in the opposition backs, and they exploited them several times in kick and chase tactics, especially by Chris Brelsford.

Right from the off they showed their intent to play fast attacking rugby, and they forced a mistake in the very first minute.
Winning a scrum from the kick off after an Amber Valley knock on, the ball came out crisply, winger Gareth Austin, burst through in the centre, and he fed a slightly misdirected pass which Chris Brelsford scooped up, and he gave Ben Hallam a short pass to drop in the corner for the first try.
Mark Higgins then had 2 attempts at goal from penalties, and he converted the second.
Austin then set up another attack as he gathered a high ball in defence , and then ran through the oncoming Amber Valley players. He linked with Brody Howatson who chipped ahead, and Austin following up latched onto the loose ball, and when tackled he shipped the ball to Brelsford who stormed in from 40 metres. (or maybe nearer 50)
Higgins converted.
In the interim Casuals had suffered 2 head injuries, but both players, Neil Kilbride and Higgins came back on after being patched up.
And ironically it was flanker Kilbride who later emerged from a maul in Valley’s half, and pounded his way to the try line with defence leaden footed in pursuit, unable to prevent the try. Higgins again converted.

The first score in the second half came shortly after kick off.
The forwards once again won good ball at a maul, and it was passed to Howatson, still well in Casuals half, and he cut straight through in the centre his blistering pace then taking him around the outside of the defenders, and he squeezed past on the 5 metre line to complete the run in. Higgins again converted.
(That was the bonus point in the bag again)

Brelsford then got his second try.
Casuals turned over Amber Valley possession from a penalty, quick hands sent the ball out to Hallam who set up Brelsford, returning the earlier favour by Brelsford, and he again ran in from a deep to score under the posts to give Higgins another easy shot at goal.
Brelsford’s generosity got the better of him later when maybe he could have completed his hat trick clean through on the line, he decided to pass the ball inside instead to Higgins, with only one man to beat, but the move unfortunately broke down.

Casuals forwards again managed to break up an Amber Valley scrum, and as the ball went loose Higgins hacked ahead, the bouncing ball stood up nicely for him and he completed the run in for a converted try.

Casuals introduced new back Charlie Bradwell in the second half, after a short run out during a blood injury early on, he was brought on in the centre, for a promising debut.
And when all the graft had been done in the forwards, Podge came on (at prop, where else) to complete the game for his first run out in the 1sts for some considerable time.

Man of the match Gareth Austin,
