Great start to the season continues as Casuals rout Market Bosworth

Saturday 19th September 2015
Midlands 2 East North

Nottingham Casuals 36 Market Bosworth 6

Casuals continue their superb start to the season, completely overwhelming Market Bosworth scoring 6 tries and 3 conversions, earning a try bonus point, putting them 3rd in the table.

Games had always previously been keenly contested, so Casuals were a bit concerned that the enforced changes from the previous week would not help their cause, but they need not have worried,
as it soon transpired that Casuals were the superior side.

Market Bosworth drew their game against Melbourne, (Casuals’ next week’s opponents) and it was reported that Bosworths’ forwards were a large unit, so Casuals’ first task was to counter them up front. However Bosworths’ stereotyped tactics played right into Casuals’ hands, and Bosworth could make no real progress.
Their mauling was poor and easy to defend, Casuals making them consistently crab cross field.
Bosworth were first to score with a penalty after only 3 minutes after a silly high tackle, but Casuals came back strongly.
Once again it was the tackling that made the difference, and every man made their mark on the visitors attacks.
Casuals stole the ball at a lineout, and drove up the middle, then Steve Naylor put in one of his typically strong runs, but unfortunately dropped the ball in the tackle.
Casuals won the scrum put in after the scrum was wheeled through 90, and Josh Newton got the ball away quickly, which gave Higgins the space to jink through for the try, which he converted.
Bosworth got back to within 1 point with a penalty on 30 minutes, but that was their last threat to Casuals dominance.
Casuals forged upfield, with play going to and fro crossfield, and eventually they broke through with 2nd row, Tom Lightfoot going over.
Casuals had a player yellow carded for repeated offences, but it made no difference, and Naylor went in after yet another storming run through a stunned defence.

He followed that up with a second try shortly afterwards, this time jinking infield after another strong run.

Casuals were beginning to dominate play, running moves at will, and their interplay eventually sent centre James Wood through a bemused defence.
Higgins added the conversion.

Bosworth briefly came back on the attack, but play was halted due to a serious injury to a Bosworth player.
After a delay of 15 minutes the game was moved to an adjoining pitch, and Bosworths’ chance had gone.

Casuals wrapped the game up when a quick penalty was shipped out to hooker Graeme Roberts who went in wide out, to give the Roberts brothers their second try in 2 weeks.

Casuals created a bit of history fielding 2 sets of brothers in Graeme and Simon Roberts, and Josh and Ben Newton

Next week Casuals travel to Melbourne in the hope they can overcome another bogey side.
