Casuals 7 Newark 29

Casuals couldn't dent Newark's 100% record in this final league game of the season, watched by an enthusistic crowd after a pre-match buffet.

Helped along by another slice of Casuals bon viveur, actually a simple miss pass that went horribly wrong, the interception in the centre by Newark led to their first try.

This was followed by 2 more before half time, and at one stage it looked as if Newark were going to wreak havoc.

But with the wind at Casuals backs,in the second half some determined defence, and a much more solid platform up front in the scrums and lineouts, Casuals showed some spirit to deny Newark for long periods.
On several occasions the line was beckoning for Casuals, but some duff handling, and maybe a bit more possession kept in the forwards, could have brought some greater reward.
As it was Newark managed only a penalty and converted try, and it was Casuals who finally got their reward as Chris Brelsford eventually got a pass out wide, but he still had to burrow his way over the line, and despite the protestations from Newark, he was awarded the try.
Higgins the had the final word with a conversions from near the touchline sending it soaring over the bar (been keeping that kick till the end of the campaign!!!!!!!!!!!)

So at the end, Casuals ended up just below halfway, but more than secure, after their first season in this league.
A mixed bag of results, but there is plenty to work with next season.
Unfortunately Casuals have crop of departures, as several players career paths take them away from Nottingham.
Good luck to those who are leaving, especially Will Drewe who made the no 10 shirt his own, whilst the others have added superbly to the Casuals cause.Been a pleasure watching in the most part, despite some of the losses, as the skills displayed at other times have more than made up for it.
