I really didn't think the feeling of thrashing Mansfield last week away from home could be bettered but it has. A really strong and technically good performance from the 2s. Our forwards were absolutely excellent, we scrummage, rucked and mauled really well and with Man of the Match Greg jumping really well. In the lineout we were solid on our ball and disrupted a lot of Ilkeston ball. We managed 7 tries all of which were team tries in there making. 4 tries for the outstanding Mambers who was a last minute replacement for Woody who sadly pulled a muscle in the warm up, 2 for Paul Greensmith who had an really good game and looked really sharp and quick (might be the fact that he was lighter due the all the throwing up). I have really tried but I can't remember who got the other one but I am sure I will be reminded. The conditions were foul but inspite of this Ed put in an encouraging kicking performance and was composed at full back. I literally could go through the whole team and list what they did well but I won't but needless to say there were no weakness.
The first up tacking was excellent from backs and forwards alike. The backs were physical and very often precise which considering the weather just shows what a strong performance it was. So much of what we did well were faucets of the game which we have worked on in training. Direct running, precise hands, clinical mauling and aggressive clean out. So proud of my boys this week, even more so than last week as Ilkeston were no push over. It is a simple game when you do the basics well, it was not a faultless performance as we did panic at times and this caused periods of fragmented play but against the elements it really was a job well done and although Greg thoroughly deserved his man of the match it could have been any one of a great number of guys.
Well done 2nds, lets keep working hard, see you all at training on Tuesday.
