Casuals v Mellish triple header.

After last week’s tight win against Bingham, Casuals travelled to Mellish and got off the mark pretty early. Good pressure from the forwards found Casuals in the left corner and pushed over for the 1st try. Buckers and Rex were in controlled of the ball at the same time. Conv from a tight angle was missed.

The lineout was working well, Cas won all their own balls and stole a good few Mellish ones also. However, we conceded a penalty in our own 22 which Mellish put away. 5-3.

More Casuals pressure from a rolling maul on the right, for a moment it seemed everything had stopped just short of the line, everything except Dave Mellor, who calmly strolled in from the blind side to score leaving 29 other players bemused as to how!

Mellish hit back with a converted try before the end of the half.

In the 2nd half the tries kept coming. With most of the possession and territory Casuals scored through Baz, Rex, Barney (Showing good footballing skills to kick a spilled ball over the line) & front row replacement Shaun ‘Speedy’ Dannheimer. Gav-La Wise converted 4 from 4.

Mellish were far from beaten though and showed pace and guile with some great counter attacking Rugby to score twice in the 2nd half. The Casuals backs defence not what it should have been at times.

In the end, leaving Mapperley with a winning away bonus point and denying Mellish a losing bonus point was no mean feat. The victory cup of tea after the game tasted all the better.
