Casuals 2nd XV went away to Southwell this weekend looking to make amends for last weekend’s second half defeat to Ilkeston 3rds.
Early on it was clear that Casual’s pack had the upper hand over Southwell, whereas the two back lines were very closely matched, and the first half ended 0-0, even though Casuals had a push over try disallowed for some reason. In the second half Southwell quickly took advantage of Casuals slow start after the break and opened the scoring with a converted try. It was not long before Southwell broke the otherwise solid defensive line again, but Casuals got off with the scare due to some heroic defending from Paul Greensmith and Anthony Walton forcing the knock on.
Southwell kept the pressure up and were rewarded with another try. Casuals seemed to get their second wind and started dominating the game again and not long after got a well deserved try underneath the sticks due to some strong running from Craig Law, converted by Paul Greensmith. The battle raged on with both side defending well, but it was Craig Law that finally broke the dead lock and scored Casuals 2nd try. The pressure was now on Paul Greensmith to kick the conversion for the win, unfortunately it was just out of range and the game ended 12-12.
A big thank you to all players for a great game, and a big thank you and an apology to Graeme Pilkington for coming along but not getting on.
